His name is John
He motioned for a writing table and to everyone’s surprise, he wrote: “His name is John" Luke 1:63, NLT
During the narrative in the Bible about the immaculate conception and birth of Jesus Christ by the Virgin Mary, there is also a story about the birth of John, Jesus' distant cousin. Why is the story about John's birth included alongside the narrative of Jesus' birth?
John’s birth was significant because he would serve as the forerunner of Jesus, preparing the way for the Messiah. John’s birth inspired people to get ready for someone greater than him to arrive on the scene, offering hope, peace, repentance, and salvation for all humankind.
Zechariah and Elizabeth knew their son would be incredibly special and serve a crucial role in the story of the Messiah. So much that when the time came to name their long-awaited baby, they didn't choose a family name. Instead, they gave him the name the angel had instructed—John.
The Bible states that God promises His children a new name after we are reborn through His Son, Jesus Christ. So when others are tempted to call you by any other name, remind them of the special name your Heavenly Father has given you—Christian!
Prayer: Father, thank you for the birth and life of John and all he did to prepare us for the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
