"Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 2:5, NLT
Have you ever heard the phrase “Like father, like son”? According to Thewordcounter.com, this expression describes a son who resembles his father in appearance or behavior.
Joseph was a man of deep faith and sacrifice—qualities his son, Jesus, would ultimately embody. After an angel appeared to him, confirming that Mary’s story of being conceived by the Holy Spirit was true, Joseph willingly accepted the challenges ahead. He subjected himself to potential ridicule and misunderstanding, chose to marry Mary, and honored her purity until she gave birth to their son, Jesus Christ.
As Charles Swindoll wrote in Jesus, The Greatest Life of All: "Joseph understood the risks, counted the cost, set aside his rights, and willingly accepted Mary's difficulties as his own. What a model of selfless grace.”
Thirty-three years later, Jesus followed in the selfless footsteps of his earthly father, reflecting that same grace in an even greater sacrifice. He understood the risks, counted the cost, set aside His rights, and willingly gave His life on the cross (Philippians 2:5-8). What a profound example of a son who reflected his father’s heart.
Each day, many fathers do the same. They face the challenges of fatherhood, sacrifice time and resources, set aside personal comforts, and embrace their children’s struggles as their own.
To all fathers, thank you for your unwavering sacrifice, your quiet strength, and the grace you show daily. In reflecting the heart of God, you shape lives more than you may ever realize.
Happy Father’s Day,

A Father’s Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for setting the example of what a real father looks like. May I always seek to reflect Your heart as I father my children. Amen.
